"We are extremely pleased to be playing a key role in bringing World Water Monitoring Day to the residents of Ontario," said Nick Reid, Vice President of Business Development for the Ontario Clean Water Agency. "This is a very important global program that was created to help protect the world's precious and irreplaceable water resources. As the largest operator of water and wastewater facilities in Canada, we feel it's our obligation to get involved, promote World Water Monitoring Day and encourage Ontarians to participate."
"It's great to have OCWA on board as a program partner," said WEF Executive Director Bill Bertera. "So much of the success of a program like World Water Monitoring Day is based upon the engagement, dedication and enthusiasm of organizations like OCWA-organizations that are not only in the business of clean water, but are also acting as ambassadors for clean water in their communities."
As part of its involvement in the program, OCWA has so far distributed over 200 easy-to-use testing kits to communities throughout Ontario. The Agency's employees throughout the province have also risen to the occasion and are making themselves available to coordinate local water monitoring events in their communities upon request.
WWMD is officially observed each year on September 18. In 2009, however, the monitoring window will expand, allowing participants the flexibility to monitor and report data to the WWMD database anytime from March 22 until December 31.
