"What makes the GOGREEN service unique and appealing to Canadian businesses is the ability and simplicity it provides local companies to manage, monitor and offset their carbon footprint, all in a seamless automated process," said Mathieu Floreani, President, DHL Express Canada.
To provide a carbon-neutral shipment, DHL calculates to the nearest gram the carbon emissions generated by transporting each customer's shipment from country of origin to destination. DHL then offsets these emissions by reinvesting in certified carbon management programs such as reforestation and alternative energy projects. These carbon-offset credits are issued directly to the companies that use GOGREEN via a carbon offset certificate. The carbon offset and credit process is monitored and verified by Société Général de Surveillance SA (SGS), an independent certification organization.
"DHL is committed on a global and local basis to environmental sustainability, and as such we strive to develop and offer environmentally friendly products & services that benefit the environment and our customers," added Mr. Floreani.
DHL's GOGREEN is the first in a series of environmentally friendly initiatives the company is planning to introduce. As part of its ongoing commitment to climate protection and environmental sustainability, DHL Express Canada has recently undergone an extensive re-routing exercise in an effort to maximize fuel efficiency for the entire DHL fleet of vehicles in Canada. Additionally, the company is working with environmental protection organizations to further its ecological investments in Canadian foresting and land-protection projects.
"As the world's largest logistics company, DHL plays a leading role on a global scale in promoting economic and environmental sustainability and we are carrying the same commitment here in Canada," said Andrew Williams, Vice President, Commercial with DHL Express Canada.
DHL, which offers the GOGREEN carbon-neutral shipping service in more than 25 countries around the world, was also chosen to be the official logistics partner providing carbon neutral logistics services for the UN Climate Conference 2009 in Copenhagen this December.
